Digital Inclusion

In the UK, around 1 in 5 people lack confidence in using digital technology. Many older adults, in particular, face barriers such as limited access to affordable internet, uncertainty about online safety, or simply not knowing how to use digital devices comfortably.

According to the Lloyds Bank UK Consumer Digital Index (2018), there are five essential digital skills that support confidence and independence online:

  1. Managing Information – finding, understanding, and saving useful information.

  2. Communicating – sending emails, messages, and engaging in online conversations.

  3. Transacting – shopping safely online and downloading apps.

  4. Problem Solving – checking the reliability of information and using online support tools.

  5. Creating – filling in forms and producing content such as posts or documents.
